I Want To Tell You That I Love You

October 17th, 2010 | 3 Comments

I want to tell you that I love you

I want to get drunk and write you love letters with egregious run-on sentences and expansive gushing gratuitous leaping metaphors

I want to pour every word from every language into a cup, and cover it with raspberry and dark chocolate, so that you might take just one sip

I want you to leave, but come right back, so that we are forever embracing the way that we do when we say goodbye or hello

I want to show you the photo of you and I and a friend’s child I that I call “Motivation”

I want to lay out so many candles on the floor for you that there is no where to sit, and you laugh at me

I want to put my arm around your shoulder awkwardly, like a teenager anticipating his first breast

I want to stare at you to the point that you think I am a good listener

I want to share how my heart feels the pain of a loose tooth that you can’t stop touching

I want to catch your long hair in my beard so that you pull away more slowly

I want you to play with my hand like you do when you don’t know what to say

I want you to tell me again that I give the best hugs in the world

I want to want to give you room to breathe

I want to seduce you only to the point where I can kiss your wrist

I want to have past girlfriends witness a look they have never seen

I want to kiss like we did the second time, after I surprised you the first time

I want to insist on lifting your hair behind your ear, just for a reason to touch your face

I want to fill my head with your laugh

I want to tell other men to keep moving

I want to hold your hand when it isn’t appropriate, and have others go around

I want to read to you Rumi and Neruda

I want to tell you that I love you

Swoon. “I want to hold your hand when it isn’t appropriate and have others go around” Nicely done.

This is so beautiful. So honest.

“I want to show you the photo of you and I and a friend’s child I that I call “Motivation” ” < I love this.

This is really great. If she ever read this, the only answer really, is.. “You just did.”
